I need help with my oil heating system!
Is the water cold?
Cold water is usually caused by either a lack of power, a faulty thermostat or a faulty heating element. Check for and reset any tripped circuit breakers and replace any blown fuses. Check power switches to make sure they are turned on and power indicators are lit. Inspect the thermostat to see that it is receiving power. If this does not resolve the problem, contact us for a service call.
Is the water warm but not as hot as your set temperature?
The most common causes for this are an undersized water heater, crossed hot and cold water connections or a malfunctioning heating element or thermostat. Check for crossed connections by turning off the water supply and turning on a hot water faucet. If the water still flows, the like culprit is a crossed connection. Is the water too hot?
This may be the easiest troubleshoot. Check the thermostat. If it’s above 120° Fahrenheit, turn it down to that setting. That keeps your water hot enough while lowering the risk of scalding. If the water stays too hot, contact us for a service call.
Are there leaks?
There are many potential causes of leaks in your water heater. Check for loose plumbing connections and tighten them. If there are no loose connections or there are still leaks, contact us right away as there may be a possibility of tank failure.
Is the hot water rusty?
This is a sign of potential corrosion inside your water heater tank. The anode rod, used to attract the minerals that lead to corrosion away from the walls inside the tank, may have failed. Contact us right away.
Is the water heater making weird noises?
If you hear banging or rumbling while your water heater is running, it’s a sign of sediment buildup inside the water heater tank. Flush the water heater.
